WOSA Austin TX Braai
30 October 2013
27 October 2013
This past weekend WOSA presented another bBraai event as part of the Braai Series in the USA. The second last event of the 2013 calendar took place in Austin Texas on 27 October 2013. The event was very popular and was totally sold out. 400 people attended and Chef Hugo Uys cooked typically South African dishes including ostrich burgers, 'roosterkoek', 'braaibroodjies', boerewors rolls and malva pudding. Six wine importers participated in the event and they were happy with the turnout and the quality of people that attended. WOSA has already received some write-ups on blogs covering the event’s success. Austin is home to thousands of South Africans and many attended. A local charity benefitted from ticket sales, and WOSA raised more than $6 000 for the Amala Foundation that supports poor communities around Austin.
The guests also had the opportunity to paint a big canvas that was given away to a consumer who won a competition that was held during the event. WOSA also gave away braai books and flip grills ('braairoosters') – these were wildly popular!
The Braai Series is a concept where WOSA USA organises consumer focused Braai events involving local SA wine importers, local charities and retail stores. The events are focused on consumers but wine trade and press are also invited. The idea behind the Braais is to explore American BBQ cuisine and culture and introducing South African Braai cuisine, wine and culture at the same time. The aim is to sell wines at these events. The next braai will be hosted in Hollywood on November the 3rd at Raleigh Studios.
